D-Day!

The plan for the week was to lay low and see if Brinley would come on her own. On Tuesday night we would go in to prepare for a Wednesday morning induction. On Saturday we got  a call from our doctor saying that our hospital was getting pretty full for Wednesday and we would possibly have to deliver at another hospital, unless we wanted to come in sooner. So! We decided we would go in Sunday night to prepare for a Monday morning induction.
When I arrived the nurse went over the plan. I was to take a pill at 10:00 p.m. that would soften my cervix to be sure it was ready for induction in the morning along with an Ambien to help me sleep. At approximately 7:00 a.m. they would begin induction and Brinley would arrive sometime in the Monday afternoon hours.
Of course, the plan changed drastically after taking the 10:00 p.m. pill and ambien. The pill I took is an antacid that has a side effect of "ripening" or softening the cervix to prepare for labor and delivery. It can occasionally begin labor in a small percentage of women, and well, I was in that tiny percentile. At 10:00 p.m. I took the pill, at 11:00 p.m. I ordered an ambien to help me sleep. At midnight my water broke and I was having noticeable contractions that I was having to breathe through.
The contractions became stronger and at approximately 2:00 a.m. they called in the anesthesiologist to deliver my epidural. Once they began the epidural I passed out, exhausted from 2 hours of hard contractions.
Once my water broke Clint woke up and the nurse told him to be prepared to have a baby sooner rather than later. He drank 2 cups of coffee and had a little snack and he was wired! So after I fell asleep once my epidural was in place he layed there watching the monitor. I was having major contractions during my sleep and snoring away!
At 5:00 a.m. they came to wake me and told me we were going to start pushing. From then on it was 3 pushes with every contraction. Dr. Gina showed up just before Brinley was born. I gave her one last push once she got there and out she came in one swoop! A beautiful baby girl weighing in at 7# 7oz. and 19 1/2 inches long. Best day of our lives! We love her so much and I can't believe all we have been through just in the 2 weeks we have had her home!

Week 40, D-day!

Weeks along? 40

Baby’s Size? Jackfruit, 18.9-20.9 inches, 6.2-9.2 lb.
Cravings? Chocolate, glad I have only craved it the last week.
Sleeping? I fall asleep about 3:00 a.m. and wake up about 5 or 6 hours later, I’m still a pretty light sleeper.
Maternity Clothes? Yes, and Clint’s shirts.
Morning Sickness? Nope.
Stretch Marks? Still just the two smaller ones on each side of my lower abdomen.
Movement? Yes, she still enjoys sleeping on the right side of my belly.
Pains? Yes, sharp pains in my abdomen have had me on my toes all week, but the doctor says it’s ok as long as it isn't coming with closer contractions or any other labor concerns.
Iny or Outy? Flat
Mood for the most part? Happy, anxious, tired.
Anything you miss? Sleeping on my stomach.
Most excited about? Having baby Bowen on Monday! If I don’t go into labor by tomorrow night they are going to have me come in and induce me on Monday. Can’t wait to welcome baby Bowen into the world!

Week 39, Come On Baby!

Weeks along? 39

Baby’s Size? Watermelon, 18.9-20.9 inches, 6.2-9.2 lb.
Cravings? Sweet tea and pretzels is our favorite snack every day.
Sleeping? Since the weather has been cooler the past couple days, we have been able to keep the windows open and it’s so chilly in our room. First time in months I have slept with a blanket.
Maternity Clothes? Yes, but mostly Clint’s shirts which fit me quite nicely.
Morning Sickness? Nope.
Stretch Marks? I have noticed 2 small stretch marks on either side of my belly, only I would notice them and I think they’ll go away.
Movement? Yes, however lately she has been taking up home on the right side of my belly only! Turns my belly to look weird because it rides high on one side.
Pains? Been better this week, feet haven’t been as swollen with the cooler weather and the fact that the bigger I get, the less I want to be on my feet.
Iny or Outy? Still flat, but if she stays in any longer it’s going to pop!
Mood for the most part? Happy yet tired. It’s been fun, but time for her to come on out!
Anything you miss? Getting off my reclining chair without assistance and sleeping on my stomach. That will be the first thing I attempt after she is born and I get to sleep a little in the hospital.
Most excited about? Having this baby! We are sooo ready. It’s causing me some serious anxiety that I have this great little room all ready and it’s not getting any use!

Week 38, The Waiting Game!

Weeks along? 38

Baby’s Size? Pumpkin, 18.9-20.9 inches, 6.2-9.2 lb.
Cravings? No real cravings this week, in fact I’ve been less hungry than usual.
Sleeping? Back to rolling and turning and spending most of the night getting comfortable. I don’t fall asleep until about 2:00 in the morning, so I sleep till about 9:00.
Maternity Clothes? Yes, but those are quickly wearing out the bigger I get.
Morning Sickness? No, I’ve actually been having evening nausea, not fun.
Stretch Marks? Not on my belly but I have noticed a couple on my chest, those boobs just grew and haven’t stopped!
Movement? She’s moved more in the past week than she has for about a month, makes me feel like she is going to take her sweet time coming into this world.
Pains? My feet and back are taking a toll on the weight, I’m going to feel so light when she is born!
Iny or Outy? Still flat, Clint says she is going to pop it out on her way out just to give us a good laugh.
Mood for the most part? Happy yet still all the emotions are kicking in about labor and the aftermath of bringing her home for the first time.
Anything you miss? Being able to sit up in one swift motion, makes for a long trip to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
Most excited about? My house is spotless! Clint says it looks like we have been living here for years, and I love it. Definitely not worried about the house being clean, you can’t even tell two dogs live here. In fact it’s mostly the man I am cleaning up after if anyone can believe that!

Week 37, New Home!

Weeks along? 37

Baby’s Size? Winter melon, 18.9-20.9 inches, 6.2-9.2 lb.
Cravings? Ice Cream! Our favorite of the week was a root beer float!
Sleeping? Actually sleeping a little better this week, I think I’m just so tired from the move and putting the house together.
Maternity Clothes? Yes, can’t wait to be back in a pair of jeans.
Morning Sickness? Nope.
Stretch Marks? No, but my linea is just beginning to show.
Movement? She’s moving all the time still, but she has dropped and has less room, so I feel her a little less and I know she is still active down there.
Pains? My back is straining a bit from the weight of my belly.
Iny or Outy? It’s flat!
Mood for the most part? Happy, getting more emotional as the time comes closer. I am also having more anxiety about things being clean.
Anything you miss? Normal sized toes, my poor pigs are so swollen!
Most excited about? Getting to actually do all the things that I have prepared for, for the past 9 months. We had childbirth class this weekend and it was quite helpful. After watching an actual birth Clint turned to me and expressed to the whole class how it was “just like a cow”! At our appointment last week our doctor told us we were 1 cm. dilated and 80% effaced, meaning we will be holding her vs. having her on our due date. Getting anxious and nervous and hoping I have everything I need together for her first weeks here at home.
Home Update: House is unpacked and the nesting has begun. Clint is enjoying working from home and I've enjoyed having him around to do a few little chores here and there so I don’t over-do it. The house is more than I expected and it’s going to be a great place for a family. Our neighbors are great and have already shared veggies from their gardens. The dogs have enjoyed the big yard and it’s so nice to give them a place to run around after having four months without a yard or a porch.

Week 34, Moving Days!

Weeks along? 34

Baby’s Size? Butternut Squash, 17.2-18.7 inches, 4.2-5.8 lb.
Cravings? Ice Cream! She loves ice cream! We have it almost every day now.
Sleeping? Nope, lately I’ve been waking up at about 3:30 a.m. so hungry I can’t fall back to sleep. Usually some blueberry oatmeal and about an hour of law and order put me back to sleep.
Maternity Clothes? Yes, but I’m wearing out my belly band in most of my shorts. Not long now!
Morning Sickness? Nope.
Stretch Marks? No, but I have noticed a little extra on the top of my thighs.
Movement? She’s still very mobile. Can’t wait till she drops so I can have a little more breathing room and eat a full meal!
Pains? I think most of the hip expanding is done so my back has been better the past week, however my swollen toes have needed some attention.
Iny or Outy? It’s flat!
Mood for the most part? Happy, I can’t wait for the next few days!
Anything you miss? Sleeping on my stomach and I could really use a hot tub about now.
Most excited about? Moving! I can’t wait to put her nursery together and get the dogs into their new yard and out of the house! It will be the perfect time of year for them as the weather will be getting nice for fall.

Home Update: Everything is coming together. All we have left is to pack up and actually move. I started packing the apartment up this weekend in anticipation for the move. The puppies are a little confused but I can’t wait to see their face when their couch comes out of storage and is put in the house. Trying to get to see everyone before we go but I know it will be hard. Praying for safe travels and everything that our new adventure has in store for us!

Week 32!

Weeks along? 32

Baby’s Size? Large Squash, 15.2-16.7 inches, 2.5-3.8 lb.
Cravings? Meat, mostly sausage and hamburger.
Sleeping? Sleep is now no part of my routine, I feel my body has officially prepared me.
Maternity Clothes? Yes, and a lot of them are not the most attractive, nor comfortable, I can’t wait to be back into some normal clothes.
Morning Sickness? Nope, feeling a little nausea if I don’t drink enough fluids.
Stretch Marks? No, I think I’m in the clear, however the veins on the side of my stomach leading to my groin are so wicked, like big spiders!
Movement? She is moving all the time. Since she is head down her feet get caught up in my ribs and it’s getting harder to breath every day.
Pains? My back is uncomfortable most of the time and this week I have experienced leg cramps, I am constantly moving to help my circulation.
Iny or Outy? It’s just flat.
Mood for the most part? Happy!
Anything you miss? Sleeping and eating big meals. I am hungry but there is only so much room in there at a time.
Most excited about? I am very excited for all the new things that are happening in our life, and getting excited to meet her. Clint and I have finally decided on a name. It will be a secret till D-day!
Home Update: I am pleased to announce Clint and I have bought a home in Papillion, Nebraska. We will be making the big move on August 15th. I can’t wait to have a house and yard for the dogs, and most importantly, a NURSERY! I’ve been working together with my mom-in-law, Cindy, and my mom, Cassy, to get the nursery together. The home is in a great neighborhood and close to friends and family. Clint will be working from home for the next bit to try to open a new branch for his company in Omaha and I will be staying at home taking care of baby Bowen and Clint. A huge thank you to all who have prayed for this day, I am so relieved and thankful for this door God has opened in our lives. This will be our last big adventure for a while as we begin to raise a child and start a new in the Midwest.

Baby Shower in the Mountains!

More pictures from Baby Bowen's first shower as well, just realized I did not post these! Thank you Ali and all my good friends who came and had girlie time with Baby Bowen and I. She is so loved and has so many wonderful women in her life. Love you all! Thank you and sorry to Robin in advance for this lovely picture. Unfortunately she was not drunk in this picture, but she did manage to open this fine bottle of wine with a screw driver?...

Private Baby Shower!

I got a big surprise in the mail today from a good friend and her thoughtful sister! Thank you Danielle and Nikki for all the gifts and for spoiling Baby Bowen. I took a few pictures of my private baby shower and hope you enjoy, I know I did!
 Heidi Klum Bib!

Ugh Boots! So cute, my favorite gift of the "shower"! I believe I was saying that in this picture.

She got a couple really cute beanies!

These bibs were the bomb! They are slick with a little food catcher at the bottom, genius!

Week 30!

Weeks along? 30

Baby’s Size? Cucumber, 15.2-16.7 inches long, 2.5-3.8 lbs
Cravings? Milk, which I have never enjoyed, and Dr. Pepper.
Sleeping? Not sleeping well, just uncomfortable lying down.
Maternity Clothes? Yes, I can’t wait to be back in a normal pair of jeans and a t-shirt.
Morning Sickness? No, I’m feeling great!
Stretch Marks? No and I am so happy to lather up still twice daily.
Movement? She is moving constantly, even Clint can’t calm her down most of the time. She is head down now so I can feel whether it’s her hands or feet punching or kicking me.
Pains? Not as bad, my new body pillow is so comfortable!
Iny or Outy? It’s actually a flat belly button, weirdest thing I’ve had during the whole pregnancy.
Mood for the most part? Happy! I love all the spoiling that is happening already, she is loved!
Anything you miss? Giant Dr. Peppers and being able to sit for long periods of time.
Most excited about? Putting all her things away in a closet!

Week 28, Third Trimester!

Weeks along? 28

Baby’s Size? Eggplant, 13.6-14.8 inches long, 1.5-2.5 lbs
Cravings? Still loving watermelon, eat it almost everyday!
Sleeping? Not sleeping much and I’m hot all the time, my body is officially preparing me.
Maternity Clothes? Yes, seems like now that we've hit the 3rd trimester I’m growing at a very fast pace.
Morning Sickness? Nope.
Stretch Marks? None, I’m so happy!
Movement? She is moving all the time, funny thing is when Clint puts his hand on my belly or talks to her she calms right down, we may have a Daddy’s Girl on our hands!
Pains? Still back pain, starting to have little pinches to my sciatic nerve now, but I ordered a new body pillow, it's the best thing that has ever come in to my life since being pregnant.
Iny or Outy? Still an iny, looks like it may not pop out, lucky me!
Mood for the most part? Happy, only 2 ½ months left till we get to meet her.
Anything you miss? Sleeping on my stomach and back.
Most excited about? We had our 28 week check up today and she is healthy and growing. It was my glucose test and I was barely on time for my blood draw, thank goodness. I did not want to have to drink that nasty stuff again. As usual I had a hard time keeping Clint occupied while waiting to see the doctor. He was playing with the pap light and reading a pamphlet on birth control when the Dr. walked in. I informed him I'm already prepared for this child, I'm in the process of raising one. I feel like that process my take the rest of my life. Haha!

Week 25, Happy Birthday to Me!

Weeks along? 25

Baby’s Size? Cauliflower, 13.6-14.8 inches long, 1.5-2.2 lbs
Cravings? Not really, however, I did crave rice krispie treats yesterday, and yes, I did relieve my craving...
Sleeping? Still not sleeping great, mostly because of my back pain and I’m sweating all the time.
Maternity Clothes? Yes, I’m able to wear dresses and skirts right now which helps and starting to outgrow my scrubs, going to be moving up again here soon.
Morning Sickness? NO!
Stretch Marks? Still none but religiously applying my belly rub.
Movement? She is on the move all day every day. Usually first thing in the morning and before bed time.
Pains? Back pain and my feet are swollen most of the time. Trying to stay hydrated and scheduled my first massage on Saturday! I've never been so excited.
Iny or Outy? Still an iny, looks like it won’t be too long now.
Mood for the most part? Happy! We only have a few more months and Baby Bowen will be here!
Anything you miss? Since yesterday was my birthday I was really wanting a Jack and Coke, had a virgin margarita instead, very depressing.
Most excited about? My massage this weekend! I can already imagine how great it’s going to be.  Had Baby Bowen’s first shower last weekend thrown by my girlfriend Ali. Had a great time and baby got a good start on filling her closet!
Home Update: Still here in the apartment. I can tell the dogs are getting depressed and they both had their first bath of the year last weekend. In such a small space, “dog” can smell quite potent. They were not excited. Luckily the pool here at the complex is open giving Clint and I some relief from all the heat we have here in Denver. Praying for all those effected by the fires.

Week 22, Memorial Day!

Weeks along? 22

Baby’s Size? Papaya, 10.5 inches long, 12.7 oz.
Cravings? Watermelon! Wish we had a fresh farmer’s market around here.
Sleeping? Not sleeping through the night, usually just restless or I have to pee.
Maternity Clothes? Yes, and after five and a half months I have finally moved up to a size Medium scrubs!
Morning Sickness? Nope, occasionally nauseas but no more sickness… for now.
Stretch Marks? No, but still applying my wonderful cream TWICE daily!
Movement? She is moving! She moves a lot while I’m at home, I’m on my feet so much, I rock her to sleep and don’t feel her much during the day because of it.
Pains? The back pain is becoming unbearable at times. Had me in tears this morning and losing some sleep.
Iny or Outy? Iny, but not for long!
Mood? Happy, enjoying summertime finally!
Anything you miss? Sleeping on my stomach and Dr. Peppers!
Most excited about? Deciding on a name! Clint and I have been talking and we have narrowed it down. Not sure if we will reveal or not.
Home Update: Still living in the apartment. We are in limbo and it’s driving me crazy not being able to begin decorating a nursery. Also, we are in such a small space, the dogs don’t have a yard or porch I can throw them out in the beautiful weather to get some cleaning done. The larger I get, the smaller everything else feels!

Week 20, Happy Mother's Day!

Weeks along? 20

Baby’s Size? Banana, 6.5 inches long, 10.6 oz.
Cravings? Kool-Aid, the cherry flavor!
Sleeping? Sleeping ok, I wake up a lot, so I figure my body is preparing me for the baby!
Maternity Clothes? Yes, dresses and the “mom pants” as Clint calls them.
Morning Sickness? Seems to have sneaked back into my routine, the Dr. ok’d Unisom and B6 for the nausea.
Stretch Marks? No, but still applying my wonderful cream TWICE daily!
Movement? Oh yes! Baby Bowen is on the move and we can finally see and Clint can feel a lot of the movements.
Pains? Back pain still and swollen feet, booking a spa day for my birthday next month.
Iny or Outy? Iny
Mood for the most part? Happy, unless I’m hungry or tired, which happens more often than not.
Anything you miss? I miss sleeping on my back and stomach, learning to get comfortable on either side has been a challenge.
Most excited about? Beginning to plan the nursery! IT’S A GIRL! Can’t wait for the girlie clothes and décor to start pouring in. And my Mom and sister came in to town for the Mother's Day weekend. Love seeing them both!

Week 18, Welcome Spring!

Weeks along? 18

Baby’s Size: Sweet Potato, 5.6 inches long, 6.7 oz.
Cravings: Ice Cream and Lemon Drops
Sleeping: Still sleeping well, and it’s getting better, I find bed time gets earlier and earlier for me
Maternity Clothes: Yes, realizing the belly band is not cutting it anymore.
Morning Sickness? I haven’t puked for a week! I am so excited!
Stretch Marks: No and I am religiously applying my stretch cream.
Movement: Oh yes! Baby Bowen is on the move, occasionally kicking but moving all the time.
Pains: Back pain still and swollen feet, can’t wait to get the clear for a massage.
Iny or Outy: Iny
Mood for the most part: Happy, unless I’m hungry, then don’t mess with me!
What you miss: I told Clint last night I have started to miss my Cherry Vanilla Dr. Peppers again, and whiskey on occasion.
Most excited about: Still excited for our big appointment May 9th! And for those of you who know how pencil straight my hair is, you can see my hair is turning a little wavy! Exciting!

HOME UPDATE:  Still shopping for the home. Market is running out of houses for all the buyers like us, so competition is fierce and frustrating for sure. Our new realtor Jesse is working hard and has shown us some great houses. Praying God sends us the right one in the right place and we can start to focus on planning for baby Bowen.

Week 16

Weeks along? 16

Baby’s Size: Avacado, 4.6 inches long, 3.5 oz.
Cravings:
BBQ, anything BBQ!
Sleeping:
Pretty well, although it never seems to be enough
Maternity Clothes: Not quite big enough for maternity clothes, but definitely getting use of the belly band
Morning Sickness:
Every morning still, if I don’t puke in the morning, I puke at night
Stretch Marks:
Nope
Movement:
I think I can feel butterflies every now and again
Pains:
Backaches, waiting on the ok for the chiropractor and a massage!
Iny or Outy:
Iny
Mood:
Pretty good, cranky at times and having some weirdo dreams that seem to influence the days mood
What you miss:
Now that we are doing the apartment living again, I’m sad I can’t enjoy the hot tub
Most excited about:
Our appointment on May 9 to see if it’s a "she bowen" or a "he bowen"! Since all our family lives so far away we will be having our gender reveal party via mail and skype! More details to follow…

HOME UPDATE: These past 2 weeks have been a crazy ride! We moved our house into storage and moved ourselves and the 2 dogs into a 900 sq ft apartment. It was a challenge, but we are here and hopefully only for a short while. However, it only took me 30 minutes to clean the apartment today vs. the 2 hours it would take me to clean our 2500 sq ft mountain home. Dogs are finally adjusting after waiting for 4 days for Charlie to defecate on the leash. Yes a necessary detail in this move as we were quite concerned about our constipated guy. People seem friendly and I feel that coming to the apartment will better help me adjust to city living once again. Still praying we find our dream home, or at least a home in the next couple months.

14 Weeks, Happy Easter!

I have decided I am terrible at posting. I will attempt to do better.
Our first appointment for baby Bowen was last Wednesday. Clint and I had made bets on how far along I was, so he said 12 weeks, I said 14 weeks. It was a mother's instinct, I knew I was right on.
Sure enough 14 weeks was the measurements we came up with. Surprising I had only gained 3 pounds in the 3 1/2 months, feels like 10! Baby Bowen was healthy and mobile as ever! Somersaulting and such, the coffee I drank that morning to wake it up probably didn't help either. Needless to say we only had about one picture that was even decent because it would NOT stay still. The one picture I will not forget was the crotch shot it gave us. I told Clint it was a sign that it's a boy, he was showing me his not quite yet formed penis. I've decided it's a boy, Clint isn't convinced.
On the other side of the world, the house side of our world, if I hadn't mentioned it our house got a cash offer a couple weeks ago. They only gave us 3 weeks to move in, so it's been a scramble to either find a house or an apartment. Neither has been much of a success, but we may learn what it would be like to raise a newborn baby in an apartment. The Denver housing market is quite competitive and unfortunately not too much to offer. But in the long run it will all be well.

Moving Right Along

I've been cheating on my doctor, with myself. I brought the doppler home about 3 weeks ago and have been listening once a week since. It's so amazing hearing baby's heartbeat and knowing that it's ok in this little body. Heartbeat this week was 160 BPM. The old wives tale suggests if it's over 130, it's a boy. Clint says he would hate for me to get off so easy and have a boy the first time.
For those who don't know the story, our marriage was pretty much based on the fact that we would have to have a boy to carry on the Bowen legend. Needless to say, I'm a little nervous about getting my father's bad luck. However, 5 girls later, he had a boy, so there's hope. Eek.
Feeling pretty good the past couple weeks, only dry heaving every other morning now and I have a bit more energy. I'm finding myself more irritable. These hormones are no joke. Today I was in Target reading happy cartoon-like birthday cards for my nephew and blubbering like someone had just punched me in the face. It's a rollercoaster trying to decide what mood I'm in and I experience every emotion at least once a day. Unstable much?
It's weird to see how my belly is ballooning, slowly but surely. I broke down and bagged up all my cute, skinny girl clothes in anticipation for the monster tumor I will soon inherit. It wasn't as depressing as I thought and actually made me feel good that perhaps after this child comes I will no longer have to shop in the juniors section for clothes that fit. Lord knows some of the new trends just aren't quite my syle. The new belly band is really comfortable and I feel like a rebel not having to button my jeans. I feel quite exposed after eating and occasionally it slips up, showing everyone what flavor underwear I'm wearing that day. Quite embarrasing but entertaining for a good read.
That's all for now, can't wait to see how far along I am and finally expose to the world I am pregant.

January 28, 2013

As many of you know, Clint and I found out we were pregnant for the first time in July of last year. We were overjoyed and had begun planning for the April arrival of baby Bowen. On October 16, I woke up and could not hear the babies heartbeat for a 3rd day in a row. I was becoming concerned and called to get an appointment right away. It was a day Clint and I will never forget. As Dr. Faust brought baby Bowen on the screen, I could tell it was small, his umbilical cord was non-existent, and it had no heartbeat.
We mourned, no doubt. The weeks went by and it became much easier to talk about and try again. Towards the beginning of January I had a couple off days, nausea, exhausted, but didn't think much of it. By the end of January I had lost track of my lady time of the month and decided, what the heck, I'll take a pregnancy test.
The evening of January 28th, my test was positive!
Scared and excited we begin planning once more...
